NSW: State Electoral Commissioner to meet with QLD candidate
SYDNEY, Aug 22 AAP - Queenslander John Bradford will tomorrow meet with the State Electoral
Commission over his plans to enter New South Wales parliament.
The morals campaigner, known on the Gold Coast as a Christian "surfie", wants to replace
retiring Christian Democrat Elaine Nile.
However, his residency on the Gold Coast has sparked concerns that his candidacy could
be invalid.
Under state laws, a person must have lived in NSW for at least 28 days before being
entitled to go on the electoral roll and run for public office.
Mr Bradford has reportedly given his address as Narrabeen, in Sydney's north, where
his in-laws live and where he has an apartment, despite himself living on the Gold Coast.
State Electoral Commissioner John Wasson said today Mr Bradford had sought a meeting
to discuss concerns about his candidacy.
He was reluctant to comment on whether Mr Bradford could be barred from parliament.
"He's concerned about reports in the media about whether or not he is properly enrolled
and wants to discuss these issues," Mr Wasson said.
"We will have a meeting about his concerns tomorrow."
