Qld: Road toll up to eight

BRISBANE, Dec 30 AAP - Queensland's Christmas-New Year road toll rose to eight late
today with the death of a man in a head-on collision just north of Brisbane.

An ambulance spokesman said two cars collided head-on on the Kilcoy to Beerwah road
at Stanmore, west of Caboolture just after 4.30pm (AEST), killing the driver of one of
the vehicles.

The spokesman said another man from one of the vehicles was flown by helicopter to
the Royal Brisbane Hospital with multiple fractures, while a woman was taken by road ambulance
to the Caboolture hospital.

The victims had to be cut from the wreckage, the spokesman said.

Today's death is the first on Queensland roads in three days.

A man died in hospital on Thursday after being injured in an accident on the Gold Coast
hinterland on Christmas Day, while a 19-year-old woman died in an accident near Mitchell
in Queensland's south-west.

A total of 11 people died over the Christmas-New Year road toll period in Queensland last year.
