SA: Computer glitch blamed for lake draining

A computer glitch most likely opened the weir gates on Adelaide's Torrens River in
February .. draining the city's lake and leaving behind a muddy and litter-strewn eyesore.

An investigation by the Adelaide City Council has found a problem with the computer
software .. which controlled the gates .. was probably the reason they opened without
warning .. draining millions of litres of water from the lake over a two-hour period.

The other possibility is an operator error .. but council chief executive PETER SMITH
says checks with staff have found no evidence of anyone being involved.

Mr SMITH says the investigation's also ruled out any acts of sabotage or the chance
that hackers broke into the council's computer systems.

The investigation's made 11 recommendations which will cost more than 50 thousand dollars
to implement.
