Qld: SEQ residents put on fireant alert

Fireants are about to start breeding and people in southeast Queensland are being urged
to remain on the lookout.

Primary Industries Minister TIM MULHERIN says residents should watch out for swarms
of flying ants expected to be visible in the coming months and to report their findings
to Biosecurity Queensland.

He says the humid weather brought on by hot days and big storms are the trigger for
fire ants to try to establish new colonies.
