Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD says Labor's asylum seeker deals with Malaysia and Papua
New Guinea aren't the same as JOHN HOWARD'S Pacific Solution.

Ms GILLARD has told the ABC that her government has taken a regional approach, because
it's an issue for our whole region.

Mr HOWARD'S government reached agreements with Nauru and PNG to process asylum seekers
offshore and stop people-smuggling, a position condemned by Ms GILLARD at the time from
opposition.
