Fed: All Australians feel for injured soldiers - Costello

CANBERRA, April 24 AAP - Two Australian soldiers injured by a roadside bomb blast in
Iraq are modern-day Anzacs, Treasurer Peter Costello says.

Mr Costello said all Australians would feel for the pair, who are recovering in hospital
after the attack in southern Iraq last night.

He said all theatres of war were dangerous and the injuries were especially poignant
just before Anzac Day.

"These are the modern-day Anzacs on the battlefield as we speak," Mr Costello told reporters.

"We know that when you go into a theatre of war it's dangerous.

"We respect them and we admire them and we support them for it.

"And on the eve of Anzac Day it reminds us again that through successive generations,
good Australians have been prepared to walk into danger and walk into war for the sake
of us and for the sake of their country.

"We admire them, we respect them and our heart goes out to them."

All Australians would feel sympathy for the soldiers' loved ones, and admiration for
the bravery with which the troops had carried out their duties, he said.
